OUR DAILY BREAD

Media is everywhere. It is at every corner of our lives and is almost impossible to avoid it. Mass communication can be defined as the term used to describe the academic study of the various means by which individuals and entities who relay information through mass media to a large segment of the population at the same time. Mediums or channels used to disseminate information are such as the newspaper, magazines, radio, advertisements, television and film.

Mass media is changing the world's views and values rapidly. One of the media communication theories, known as the powerful effects theory explains that media is influential. As media is slanting to the visual and sensual side, people especially females, are dressed more scantily. Even teens as young as 9 dressed sensually too as they are constantly exposed and fed with mature themes and values. In addition, media determinism suggests that "The medium is the message". Indeed, medium has the power to change the way we live and experience the world. With the numerous mediums that we engaged with daily, will definitely change our mindsets in some way or another.

However, the moderate effects model states that the ability of the media to influence their audience still remains. It really depends on one's tendency to accept and be influenced easily or refrain from it and be conformed to one's will. Adding on, the cultivation theory dignifies that media does not influence audiences directly but it is cultivated indirectly, subconsciously. Influence is a gradual process.

Has media impacted your life before?(:
